The Pathway to Integrated Living
— Daily reminders for a conscious, connected life —

Life is a great school, and nature is the ultimate teacher — but without awareness, we miss life's teachings. Awareness transforms life experience into wisdom, confusion into clarity. Masters make as many mistakes as anyone, but they learn from them. To correct an error, you first need to become aware of it. Here's the paradox: when his freshmen gymnasts became more aware of their errors, they complained they were "getting worse" and "used to be better in high school." He was concerned — until he saw films from the year before. They'd improved radically. Now aware of their errors, they'd raised their standards. This feeling that you're "getting worse" is a sign of growing awareness. When you can see your weaknesses, you're finally ready to get much better.
The focus for today is:
Awareness of a problem is the beginning of the solution. Body mind masters are willing to make fools of themselves, to accept their feelings of embarrassment or awkwardness, to begin anew and continue practicing.
Today's message is inspired by Dan Millman, author of the book: Body Mind Mastery: Training for Sport and Life
Dan shares how during his first months training in Aikido, he felt more tense than ever. He thought the training was making him tense. In fact, he was only becoming aware of tension he'd always carried. This awareness, while troubling, allowed him to move beyond it and learn dynamic relaxation. As he explains: "Awareness heals, but healing isn't always pleasant. Like a heavy drinker's first realization that 'I am an alcoholic', awareness may be painful, but it frees us from illusion and empowers growth." Today's invitation is uncomfortable: What are you "getting worse" at? Where do you suddenly see mistakes you never noticed before? That's not regression. That's awareness breaking through. You're not falling apart — you're finally seeing clearly enough to rebuild.
